Randomly calling on students without obtaining their consent is an inhumane practice, particularly if a student has social anxiety. Just thought I'd add that this is a systemic issue as well. Later on, I overheard a classmate say they were annoyed with students having to write out solutions on the whiteboard because "some people get it wrong." I'm in college now, but I still remember the whole experience in vivid detail. The teacher had to go through and fix all the mistakes in front of the entire class. I was slightly isolated off to the left side of the whiteboard from the other three students, and everyone snickered at me for it like I was super territorial or something. In high school, my teacher asked a row of students to go up to the white board - each had to write out the solution to a homework problem.
